Talking music.... does any of this strike a chord with you? (Sorry!)

These days I rarely listen to music. At one time it was there most of the morning whilst I worked at whatever I was doing, and always, always out in my little Mini I would have music playing, usually something with a good beat, deep bass notes... that would get me dancing on my bum, tapping the steering wheel with my hands, singing - badly and loudly. Yes, I was one of those annoying people I now berate who seem to find it necessary to have loud music in their cars, windows open, destroying the peace for old fogeys like the person I have now become!! Now all I listen to in the car is the strange noises it seems to make... 'What's that knocking sound?', 'Did you hear that?' etc., etc.
Of course, there is an exception to my preference for silence... it's coming up to that time of year when I like to have something a little seasonal, these are just a few of my current favourites which will be played as background to my baking days in the kitchen, to my addressing and writing Christmas cards in the conservatory, blog writing and reading in my workroom. Ah yes, she who must be obeyed shall have music wherever she goes!

My husband's music collection includes everything by The Moody Blues (some of which I love to play loudly on a summer's day with the windows open!), George Benson, he even has a couple of ZZ Top albums. Ah, ALBUMS.... there must be some of you old enough to remember buying them?????
How about this little group, anything you had in your collection, still have maybe?

Then of course CDs came along, and the advantage to them is that they are small and take less room, but somehow lack the romance of vinyl. But shown here are some of my favourites, and you can see, I have a wide range of tastes!

Some is for bopping about to, some for exercising to...
And then there are those you just play when you want to sit and be quiet and relax, nothing with words that can distract you, just gentle music to wrap itself around you like a comforter. It could be classical like these...

Or not....

And then there is my collection of spiritual music, music as a background to meditation...

Music for whatever mood I am in. When I am in the mood for music that is.
Just a short one this week, to maybe jog a few memories? Have a good week and thanks for popping by again.

I still like to buy CD's - my kids don't see the point - they just download individual tracks.

But don't you want the whole LP I asked?

'What's an LP,' they replied?

Time passes....

I have to admit I often used to buy a CD for just a couple of tracks... Josh Groban was one such CD. In his case, once I got it home and played through it all, I loved all of it, but sometimes it would just be one or two tracks that got played.

I am married to a music buff which is both really annoying and quite useful ~ I'm never stuck for a present! But he will listen to music ALL the time. These days though it tends to be whilst he is on his machine or in the car on his own. He knows that music can make me quite irritable so it is in his best interests not to play it. Unless it is something we both like. And then it can hold memories for us. James Blunt is Ireland for example, and Celine Dion when we first met.
Would faaar rather listen to a book or radio 4, though I love the Chirstmas Oldies Frank and Bing and co for pref!

LP's? Yes I remember them and the cassette tapes that replaced them. Needless to say we have some albums three time over, on vinyl, on tape and then on c.d. Actually thats 4 times if you include the ones on my Ipod. 5 times if you include the ones stored on the computer as well.

Yes I do remember the old LPs and casette tapes too - shows my age eh?! My husband had loads of LPs many of which are now on CDs but we don't share the same taste in music so I tend to play mine when I am in the kitchen, in the car on my own or if he is busy on the computer upstairs I have my choice on. But like you I don't have music all the time these days and am quite content to be quiet some of the time. Old age perhaps?"!

Nice selection you have there. I don't often listen to music nowadays, silence is so wonderful or am I just getting old.

Well there's a blast from the past PFG, great choices especially the fab four. never mid the cassette tapes, what about those eight tracks that we had in our cars !!
Thought you might have had a bit of ABBA in there too.
I find that these days i find a modern classic but have no idea who performed it. I then ask the younger generation and realise that the band i like also produced loads of other songs that go in to my "I like that" category

I enjoy your taste in music and despite being at my young age, I enjoy classical and the so-called 'Oldies'. I too am one of those pople who have to destory the peace for everyone by blasting my music and singing horribly and loudly; it is a habit. Well, I thus far enjoy your blog and find it very insightful. Oh and great pun by the way lol
